Rémi Blanchard
Rémi Blanchard (1958-1993) is, with Robert Combas, Hervé Di Rosa and François Boisrond, one of the founding members of the "Figuration Libre" group which made its debut in the eighties. Inspired by mythology, the world of tales and images d'Epinal (popular 18th century prints depicting traditional scenes of French life), Rémi Blanchard's painting is characterised by broad strokes of bright colour, a simplified colour plan and the outlining of motifs with black. His painting avoids scenes of tension and drama, as he prefers to portray his characters in leisurely settings, in reading and intimacy, or simply wondering - all tending toward an imagery which evokes dreams and nostalgia.
